Huia
Huia, such a beautiful bird with such a sad ending. Here a stunning female huia perches precariously on a branch. One of our beautiful natives who became extinct with the arrival of European settlers to New Zealand. One of the special things about this species was the fact that males and females had different shaped beaks so they could inhabit different niches in the ecosystem.
Subtle shifting hues of prussian blues, brown, umbres and blacks have been layered up to capture the different hues within her glossy plumage.
