Weta - an open edition Nocturne Print
This beautiful creature is a West Coast Bush Weta. IT is part of my ever expanding Preludes and Nocturnes series that explores the diversity of our native species.
The image that I worked from for this illustration was one of a specimen that Buller provided in 1896. It is like a cross between a Giant weta and a tree weta.
Weta were the source of much entertainment growing up. I will be writing a blog post about this soon :)

This particular paper is just gorgeous, it has the appearance of water-colour paper and has been specifically created for longevity when used with pigmented inks. Because of this the darker have a wonderful velvety appearance.
